Hello, families-
I can't believe that October is almost over and we only have a few more weeks until the first quarter is done! Our new (and returning) students have become more and more acclimated to our new classroom environment. It has been very rewarding to see each student work towards becoming a part of our classroom community.
Our friends have been practicing observing each other during work, working together and giving presentations to each other. The multi-age grouping benefits every child because the learning truly becomes their own. It is so cool to watch the youngest group very intently observe the kinders complete a work. They aspire to do more work because the see what exciting works are in store for them! I also love seeing the older kids give so much presentations to other students. This truly gives them ownership of their learning, while reinforcing the skills they have mastered.
Last week, we had a field trip to the Kohl's Children's Museum. The children had such a great time exploring and playing! We also did a lot of food preparation and cooking. Some parents requested for our Pumpkin soup recipe. This is as close as it gets! =) We don't really have one but it always turn out so good! *fingers crossed* hahaha! Enjoy!
Room 101's Pumpkin Soup Recipe
Ingredients:
- 3-4 cans pumpkin puree
- 1 box veggie broth
- 1 can coconut milk
- 3 onions
- 2 shallots
- olive oil
- some garlic, nutmeg, cinnamon
- a little maple syrup
- salt and pepper to taste
Procedure:
(The children are chopping and prepping everything during work time. As soon as they are finished with one step, I place the ingredients in the slow cooker. The "cooking" begins after work time wherein the recipe cooks in the slow cooker during recess, lunch, nap time and specials- approximately 3-4 hours.)
- chop onions, garlic and shallots
- add salt and pepper
- put some olive oil in the slow cooker together with the chopped ingredients
- put in the pumpkin puree and veggie broth. Stir together.
- add nutmeg, cinnamon and maple syrup. Stir.
- add the coconut milk. Stir a few time then leave the soup to cook.
- use an immersion blender to smoothen the soup's consistency
- Enjoy!
