Our Community

Last week, our class spent a lot of time building and making our community stronger. We continue to share activities that help us learn and respect about each other especially during Morning and Sunset meetings. At these times, we share news about our lives or reflect on our day. It is very comforting to see our children hug and sway around to music they sing along with when we gather. Our days at school can be hectic and full of transitions but we make it a point to slow down and appreciate each other.

Our students also exercised their right to vote. We read the book, "Duck for President" by Doreen Cronin. As we discussed the book as a group, we also decided to vote between Farmer Brown or Duck as president. In our classroom, Duck won!

Another big celebration we had was the Diwali celebration. Arthi, a Suder parent read about this Indian holiday. She also shared how her family celebrates Diwali. Arthi shared pictures and some artifacts to our class. We also made Dum Aloo (potato curry) to enjoy at Sunset meeting. We lit our classroom diyas and made a rangoli. The children had such an amazing time!

Lastly, we had a field trip to watch the play, "Fredrick" by Leo Lionni at the Chicago Children's Theatre. The children could not stop dancing and singing along with the mice characters!

This week is Parent-Teacher conferences. I am eager to see you on Wednesday! If you have not signed up yet, please go to the Suder website to pick a time slot.

See you at school!

Always,

Ms. Guerrero

We learn new poems and songs every week that promote community building and positive relationships with each other. Here, the children are sharing a "secret" to their partner. We talk about how the secret should be something that will make the other person feel great and positive.
