Bouncing Back to Room 101

Hello, Room 101 families!

It has been a long while since our last post. So many things (and challenges) have happened between then and now. First of all, I want to thank everyone for your understanding and patience during the teacher strike. Whether you supported our cause or not, I appreciate your tolerance on what happened. It was very hard for everyone (you and I) but we accomplished a lot that benefit our students and schools!

When we left off, Room 101 was in a good flow of works and activities in the classroom. Our students are remarkable and it shows so much in their daily works. Coming back from the strike, I am amazed by how much our students were back in the groove of things! We also started cooking in the classroom. We made apple sauce and enjoyed it at Sunset meeting. The children scrubbed and chopped the apples. They were very excited to taste the apple sauce that THEY made! Get ready for more cooking in the weeks to come!!!

Today, the teachers had a Montessori PD at school. We hosted 5 other public Montessori schools in Chicago. I always love this day because we get to connect and collaborate with other Montessorians in Chicago. There was one quote that I really loved. As the presenter was reading it, I thought of our 101 community. I thought of your children. I am sharing this quote with you below:

Education and Peace 101

"When I am in the midst of children, I do not think of myself as a scientist, a theoretician. When I am with children I am nobody, and the greatest privilege I have when I approach them is being able to forget that I even exists for this has enabled me to see things that one would miss if one were somebody- little things, simple but very precious truths. It is not always imperative to see big things, but it is of paramount importance to see the beginning of things. At their origins there are little glimmers that can be recognized as soon as something new is developing."    -Maria Montessori

See you at school!
