Bee Study
I know this is not Pinterest ready but my students were very excited when they chose to do a study on bees. Two of our kindergarten girls choose the Life cycle of a Bee work and decided to create their own diagram of this to post in the classroom. Before you know it, everyone wanted to share something they know about bees. We decided to start an Inquiry study on bees. We made word webs, read both fiction and non-fiction books and dramatized our learning. We even invited students from the other classrooms to see our presentation. We didn't have a lot of materials to work with but my students were creative and resourceful with just butcher paper and a handful of pipe cleaners! Here are some pictures:
Harvest Fest Letter
Hello, Room 101-
Due to our delayed return from last Friday's field trip, I was not able to send this letter home to you. Please consider donating to this activity. Thank you.
The EC team is planning a Harvest Fest on Thursday, November
3, 2016. At this event each classroom will be making a recipe to share with
everyone. Our class will be making Squash Soup. I am requesting for your help
and support in purchasing the ingredients. Please find below the things we will
need:
- · Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- · Yellow Onions
- · 8 pounds of chopped butternut squash (I saw this at Costco.)
- · 12 small carrots
- · 1 gallon Apple Cider (not Vinegar)
- · Curry Powder
- · Cinnamon
- · Nutmeg
- · 3 cans of pumpkin puree
- · 2 blocks salted butter
- · Cream cheese (Neufchatel)
- · Brown sugar
- · Heavy whipping cream
- · 20 cups of Vegetable Broth (either canned or boxed)
- · Pumpkin Seeds
We would also like to borrow:
- · a slow cooker (I have mine but we need an extra one to make soup for everyone)
- · Mixing bowls (sturdy and stable)
- · Child-sized safety knives
- · Whisk
My idea is for the students to prepare the whole recipe. I
can’t wait to see their proud faces! Our recipe calls for some ingredients to
be sautéed but we will not be doing that for safety reasons. The children will
(Practical Life skills!!) cut, peel and mix the ingredients in the slow cooker.
We will hope for the best! hehehe. =)
More info will be sent home on Monday.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Celine

North America
Hello, families!
This week our class "traveled" to several places in North America. The children were beside themselves in excitement when I showed them our travel box. (The whole world is inside it!) Room 101 was able to explore different artifacts from Mexico, United States and Canada. I have accumulated souvenir items (maps, trinkets, models, post cards, currency, etc.) from places I have been to and put these in the box. Enjoy a snapshot of the North America presentation! =)
*Don't forget our Continent Artifact Boxes when you travel... We will gladly accept anything to add to our collection. Thank you!

Sight Word Fun!
Hello!
The kindergarteners started their Sight Word program this week. I found a new sight word game from ckisloski.blogspot.com to try out. I gave the children letters that builds the sight word list for the week. I added a control on top (wrote the words) to scaffold the students in building the words. I gave them very little instructions. I told them they were to pick a letter from the pile, find their group to build the sight word and let them go! It was pretty cool how they just figured it out.
Kindergarten parents: Wouldn't this be a fun game to try at home, too? =)
